Truth API brings Trump Media its first million: monetization of Trump's posts reaches a new level
Trump Media & Technology Group has confirmed that its Truth API service has already generated over $1 million in revenue. This refers to paid access to Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social—a product that is rapidly turning into a full-fledged financial tool for high-frequency traders.
To date, more than ten companies specializing in high-frequency trading have subscribed to Truth API. Each pays between $60,000 and $100,000 per month for accelerated access to posts that can directly impact market quotes. Given the minimum entry threshold, the service's total revenue has already surpassed the $1 million mark.
How Truth API works
The service was launched in early August and provides subscribers with priority access to posts from the most influential Truth Social accounts, including Trump's own profile. Interim CEO Kevin McGern, commenting on the initial results during the quarterly earnings report, noted that Truth API is only at an "early stage" of development. Meanwhile, the company is already in active talks with AI companies, and a separate pricing tier for retail traders is planned for the future.
Reaction from lawmakers
Such monetization has not gone unnoticed by regulators and politicians. Congressman Jamie Raskin sent an official request to McGern demanding the full list of service subscribers be disclosed. Democrats are pushing for an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), seeing a potential conflict of interest in selling access to market-relevant information tied to the president.
Trump Media's financial position
Despite the new revenue stream, the company's core business remains deeply loss-making. The net loss in the second quarter amounted to $238 million—more than ten times the figure from the previous year. Revenue grew 89% year-over-year but reached only $1.7 million. The bulk of the losses came from the revaluation of bitcoin and stocks on the company's balance sheet. Analyst Markus Thielen from 10x Research gave a harsh assessment, comparing Trump Media to a crypto fund rather than a media company.
What's next
The company recently abandoned the joint launch of a prediction markets platform with Crypto.com, which fits the broader trend of scaling back crypto initiatives under McGern's leadership. At the same time, plans to merge with energy company TAE Technologies remain in place—the deal was supposed to close several months ago. Over the past five days, the company's shares have lost 9% following a recent rally.
My take: Truth API is a striking example of how a political media platform is transforming into market infrastructure. However, a million dollars against hundreds of millions in losses is just a drop in the ocean. The question is not whether the service can generate revenue, but how resilient this model is to regulatory pressure and how long the market will treat Trump's posts as a trading signal. For now, investors view this more as a speculative story than a fundamental growth driver.
