Oracle and Quantinuum join forces: the Helios quantum computer is integrated into the OCI cloud.

The quantum computing market is taking another significant step toward practical application. Oracle Corporation and Quantinuum have entered into a strategic partnership under which the Helios quantum system will be integrated into the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) cloud platform. This is not just a technical merger — it is a signal that hybrid computing is ceasing to be a theoretical concept and is becoming a real tool for business.
Helios is a third-generation system built on trapped-ion technology. It is based on 98 physical qubits, with operation accuracy exceeding 99.9%. Energy efficiency deserves special attention: the installation consumes less than 1% of the electricity required by modern supercomputers. This is a critically important factor given the growing demands for sustainability and computing costs.
The main focus of the partnership is the development of hybrid computing, which combines the power of artificial intelligence and quantum systems. Practical applications are planned in areas such as the search for new materials, drug development, supply chain optimization, and financial modeling. These are precisely the fields most sensitive to the computational limitations of classical systems, and the quantum approach could deliver a qualitative leap here.
Oracle has already announced the launch of a preliminary version of its quantum service in the coming months. Developers will gain access to tools for creating applications in a familiar cloud environment using open code libraries. This lowers the entry barrier and allows companies to experiment with quantum algorithms without needing to delve deeply into the physics of the processes.
The key advantage of the integration is the removal of barriers associated with purchasing and maintaining expensive equipment. Oracle representatives emphasize that this approach will make complex computing accessible to a wide range of businesses and research institutions. This is a natural stage of evolution: just as cloud services democratized access to classical computing, this process now extends to the quantum sphere.
Notably, earlier in May, Saudi Aramco and Pasqal already launched the first quantum computer in Saudi Arabia. This confirms a global trend: states and corporations are actively investing in quantum infrastructure, recognizing its strategic importance.
My view: The integration of quantum systems into cloud platforms is not just a convenience but a necessary measure for scaling the technology. While quantum computers remain a niche tool, their value is unlocked only through accessibility to a wide range of users.
