Truth API brings Trump Media its first million: a new era of monetization or an ethical minefield?

Truth API Trump Media

Donald Trump's media company, Trump Media, has announced that its new Truth API service has already generated over $1 million in revenue. This marks the first tangible success for the Truth Social platform, which has struggled to find sustainable monetization paths until now.

The essence of the service is simple and ambitious: for a monthly fee ranging from $60,000 to $100,000, companies gain priority access to posts from the most influential accounts, including Trump himself. To date, more than ten firms specializing in high-frequency trading have already subscribed. The combined revenue from these clients has surpassed the $1 million mark.

Mechanics and Initial Results

Launched in early August, Truth API is, according to interim CEO Kevin McGern, "in its early stages of development." He confirmed that the company is already in active negotiations with AI companies, and plans are in place to introduce a separate pricing tier for retail traders in the future. This suggests that management sees strategic potential in this direction, not just a one-off source of income.

Political Resonance and Pressure

However, this approach has drawn a wave of criticism from lawmakers. Congressman Jamie Raskin has sent an official request to McGern demanding the full list of service subscribers. Democrats are pushing for an official investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Their main argument is that selling access to information capable of influencing markets, coming from a sitting president, sets a dangerous precedent and creates a potential conflict of interest.

Against this backdrop, Trump Media's own financial position remains shaky. The company's net loss in the second quarter amounted to $238 million—more than ten times the figures from the previous year. Revenue, although up 89% to $1.7 million, is still negligible compared to the scale of losses, the bulk of which stemmed from the revaluation of bitcoin and stocks on its balance sheet.

Analyst's Perspective

The situation around Truth API is a striking example of how political capitalization intersects with the market. As the company attempts to diversify revenue, abandoning crypto projects with Crypto.com and planning a deal with TAE Technologies, investors are left wondering: can this service become a stable source of profit, or will it remain a one-off case fueled by political context?

My assessment: Truth API is not just a business tool but a powerful lever of influence that will inevitably attract regulators' attention. In the long term, the sustainability of this model will depend not on the number of subscribers, but on the company's ability to prove its ethical and legal integrity. Without that, even million-dollar revenues won't save its reputation and shares, which have already lost 9% over the past five days.
