AI in recruiting: almost half of Russian companies have already entrusted hiring to algorithms
The Russian labor market is undergoing a fundamental shift: nearly half of employers—49%—are already actively using artificial intelligence in the recruitment process. Another 21% of companies are in the implementation stage and plan to launch AI tools in the near future. Thus, a total of 70% of employers either use neural networks or are ready to integrate them.
Where algorithms really help recruiters
My data analysis shows that the most in-demand AI function is automating routine tasks. 64% of companies already using the technology apply it to draft job descriptions, saving significant time resources. In second place is transcribing and analyzing interviews (36%), and rounding out the top three is generating personalized letters to candidates (31%). Initial screening of responses and ranking of applicants were each noted by 29% of respondents.
The effect of implementation is rated as "noticeable": 55% of companies recorded a reduction in routine tasks, 36%—a decrease in the workload on recruiters, and 20%—shorter time-to-fill for vacancies. However, budgets remain modest: about 68% of employers spend less than 500,000 rubles per year on hiring automation, and only 5% allocate over 2 million rubles.
Barriers and skepticism: why not everyone is in a hurry
Despite the obvious benefits, a significant portion of the market remains cautious. 46% of companies that have rejected the technology or do not plan to implement it consider the human factor critical for quality hiring. Concerns also include bias in neural networks (41%), a lack of expertise (32%), and doubts about return on investment (29%). Additional obstacles include limited budgets, the requirements of Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data," and risks of information leaks.
It is important to understand that recruiting is just one front in the large-scale AI expansion in the Russian economy. According to Sber's estimates, generative technologies will add 1.2 percentage points to labor productivity, primarily in office professions—from sales managers to marketers. The country's AI market grew by 29.7% in 2025, reaching 316.1 billion rubles, and the baseline scenario assumes growth to 830 billion by 2030.
The state is simultaneously shaping the regulatory framework: from pilot projects of "sovereign" neural networks in education and public services to working groups on copyright for AI content. All these processes create an environment where hiring automation is becoming not just a trend, but an integral part of the technological shift.
My verdict: implementing AI in recruiting is not a replacement for human judgment, but its enhancement. Companies that overcome the barriers of distrust and invest in the proper tuning of algorithms will gain a competitive advantage in the battle for talent. The question is not whether to use AI, but how quickly you adapt to the new reality.
