Norwegian giant quietly entered BitMine's capital: $81.9 million position revealed

The world's largest sovereign wealth fund, Norway's Government Pension Fund Global, has disclosed its stake in the American mining operator BitMine Immersion Technologies. According to the latest report as of the end of June, the fund held 6.15 million shares of the company, equivalent to approximately $81.87 million at current market prices.
Notably, BitMine did not appear at all in the previous report from the end of 2025. This means the position was built over the past six months, although the exact entry date and average purchase price are not disclosed in the documents. Such a move by a conservative institutional player is a signal of growing recognition of digital assets as a legitimate class for long-term capital allocation.
Against the backdrop of this disclosure, it is worth noting the scale of BitMine's operations. Currently, the company manages 5.805 million ETH, valued at $9.4 billion at the current exchange rate. This makes BitMine one of the largest public holders of ether among mining firms, enhancing its appeal to major investors.
From my perspective, the Norwegian fund's entry into BitMine is not just a targeted bet on a single company, but an indicator of a systemic shift. When government entities with trillion-dollar assets begin quietly increasing their exposure to crypto infrastructure, it suggests that risk managers see the sector not as a speculative story, but as a sustainable stream of returns. The question remains whether other sovereign investors will follow Norway's lead, or whether this will remain an isolated decision.
