X Layer from OKX captures 80% of xStocks turnover: A new era of on-chain stock trading
OKX's own layer-2 blockchain, the X Layer network, has made a rapid leap, increasing its share of the platform's xStocks blockchain turnover from zero to an impressive 80% in just four weeks. This jump is not just a statistic, but a clear indicator of where the market for tokenized assets is heading and what role infrastructure plays in this transition.
Rapid ecosystem expansion
OKX CEO Star Xu does not hide his satisfaction with X Layer's momentum, publicly commenting on this success. According to him, tokenized assets naturally migrate to where liquidity, users, and applications already exist. And xStocks is just the first, but very telling, example of how this logic works.
It is worth recalling that in July 2026, OKX launched spot trading for tokenized stocks, giving users access to price exposure on stocks and ETFs. The product is built on xStocks infrastructure and supports deposits and withdrawals via X Layer and Solana. Trading pairs are available 24/7 and are denominated in USDT, which neatly simplifies on-chain interaction.
From exchange to on-chain infrastructure
X Layer is an Ethereum layer-2 network deeply integrated into OKX products. The chain is built on OP Stack and connected to Agglayer, with OKB used as the gas token. According to L2Beat, the total value locked (TVL) in X Layer is around $118 million. This architecture allows combining the advantages of blockchain infrastructure with OKX's existing ecosystem.
A user can purchase a supported asset on OKX, withdraw it to X Layer, and continue interacting through their own wallet and on-chain applications. It is this seamless integration that has become the catalyst for growth. This effect is especially noticeable in the tokenized stocks segment: the xStocks integration with X Layer enables transferring assets directly to the network and using them in decentralized services.
It is important to emphasize that the figure of over 80% refers specifically to X Layer's share of xStocks' blockchain turnover, not the entire global tokenized stocks market. xStocks supports multiple networks, so the dynamics primarily demonstrate the rapid adoption of X Layer within this product's ecosystem.
Liquidity follows users
The growth of X Layer's share in xStocks turnover is a clear illustration that liquidity always follows users. OKX already has a global base, liquidity, a wallet, trading products, and developer infrastructure. X Layer connects these elements into a unified on-chain environment.
The network is developing as infrastructure for tokenized assets, RWAs, derivatives, stablecoin payments, and other services. The growth in share from nearly zero to over 80% in four weeks shows the speed at which existing financial activity can transition to an on-chain environment when convenient integration and accessible infrastructure are available.
For OKX, this is part of a broader strategy: to create an environment where users, developers, and assets can move freely between centralized products and decentralized finance, with X Layer serving as the technological foundation of this transition.
My analysis: This case is a vivid example of how CEXs (centralized exchanges) are evolving into full-fledged on-chain ecosystems. The 80% migration rate in a month is not just the success of a single product, but a signal to the market: infrastructure that offers users the least friction and maximum integration will win the race for tokenized asset liquidity. We are witnessing the beginning of a major consolidation.
