Bitcoin has fallen below $63,000: bears are once again dictating terms on the market

Bitcoin BTC going down fall падение биткоина

On August 14, the leading cryptocurrency once again came under pressure, breaking through the psychologically important level of $63,000. This decline pushed the asset back to the lows observed in early August, signaling a persistent bearish sentiment among market participants.

At the time of data recording, BTC is trading around $62,600, showing a daily decline of 1.5%. Notably, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum, is showing relative resilience: its quotes have remained virtually unchanged, holding near the $1,860 mark.

Institutional Outflows and Market Imbalance

A key negative factor has been a noticeable outflow of funds from spot Bitcoin ETFs. For the first time since late July, we are seeing a two-day streak of capital withdrawals: on August 12 and 13, investors pulled out a total of $192 million. This suggests that institutional players prefer to lock in profits or reduce risks, seeing no compelling drivers for growth.

It is particularly telling that the crypto market decline is occurring against the backdrop of positive stock market dynamics. The U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) fell to 4.7%, which beat analyst expectations. However, unlike traditional assets, Bitcoin ignored this macroeconomic positive, underscoring the weakness of spot demand.

Position Analysis and Forecasts

Despite the correction, open interest in Bitcoin futures on Binance has continued to grow since early July, reaching an impressive $27.09 billion. This imbalance—weak spot buying amid high leveraged positions—creates an extremely vulnerable market structure. As analysts at XWIN Japan note, when positive news fails to trigger growth, borrowed orders begin to close, amplifying the downward momentum.

Additional pressure comes from the potential supply overhang in the zone of short-term holder cost basis, which sits around $68,700. This level acts as significant resistance for any recovery.

My Take on the Situation

The current dynamics confirm my concerns about the market's fragility. Bitcoin's failure to hold above $63,000 following positive macroeconomic data is a worrying signal, indicating a lack of real liquidity inflow. In the near term, I do not rule out further testing of the $58,500 level, which Glassnode had warned about. Investors should exercise caution and avoid opening aggressive long positions until we see a sustained recovery in spot volume.
