Anthropic is preparing for a historic IPO: ambitions to surpass SpaceX's record and challenge OpenAI

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude language model, is seriously aiming to ensure its initial public offering (IPO) at least matches—and possibly surpasses—SpaceX's record listing. Preparations are moving at an accelerated pace, and the market is already holding its breath in anticipation of one of the biggest events of the year in the worlds of technology and finance.

$75 Billion Target: The Bar Set by SpaceX

As a reminder, in June, SpaceX conducted a placement of 555.56 million shares at $135 per share, raising a colossal $75 billion and achieving a valuation of approximately $1.77 trillion. This became the largest IPO in U.S. history. In the very first session on Nasdaq, the shares closed at $161, which only confirmed the incredible appetite of investors.

Now, Anthropic, according to my information, intends to repeat or even improve on this result. To reach such a level, the company will need to sell shares worth tens of billions of dollars. Notably, Anthropic has already adopted one of SpaceX's key corporate strategies by implementing a mechanism of preferred shares with enhanced voting rights for founders. This will allow it to maintain control over the company even after such a massive public offering.

Driver of Interest—Explosive Revenue Growth

Anthropic's main trump card is its financial momentum. The annualized revenue run rate reached $65 billion by July, compared to $47 billion at the start of the year and only about $10 billion for the entire 2025 year. Such exponential growth has not gone unnoticed: in May, another round of investments valued the company at $965 billion, already higher than OpenAI's valuation of $852 billion at that time.

Behind the scenes, investors are increasingly talking about a possible revaluation to $2 trillion during the IPO, although CFO Krishna Rao has avoided specific figures at recent briefings. It is known that a confidential prospectus was already filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) back in June, and a public filing is expected no later than the end of August.

Crypto Traders Are Already in the Game

It is telling that interest in the upcoming Anthropic listing is also actively manifesting in the crypto market. PreStocks, a platform that issues pre-IPO tokens on the Solana blockchain, reported that OpenAI and Anthropic tokens account for 78% of the total trading volume of $532.1 million since its launch. Over the last 30 days, transaction volume amounted to about $15.2 million. This indicates that retail investors are seeking ways to gain exposure to these assets even before the official exchange debut.

The public filing will give the market real benchmarks instead of estimates, and, judging by all appearances, Anthropic has every chance to outpace OpenAI, whose IPO is not expected until 2027.

My analysis: Anthropic's success on the public market will become a crucial marker not only for the AI sector but for the entire high-tech industry. If the company manages to replicate SpaceX's success, it will confirm that the market is willing to pay almost any price for leadership in AI. However, it is worth remembering: a high valuation also means enormous expectations. Any hint of a slowdown in revenue growth after such an aggressive IPO could lead to a painful correction. Investors should closely monitor not only the offering price but also long-term monetization metrics.
